Thomas “Tom” Liggett, a world-renowned probabilist, passed away on May 12, 2020. Readers may click on the PDF link at top (right) to read the tribute to his life and work that appeared in the January 2021 issue of Notices of the American Mathematical Society. Tom was beloved by students and colleagues for his immense mathematical gifts and for the exceptional grace, precision and good judgement he brought to his many academic obligations.

We are grateful to the AMS and to the individual contributors for their permission to include that tribute in this volume.
