The Nevada Test Site (NTS) is in Nye County, Nevada, sixty-five miles north of Las Vegas, Nevada. Between 1951 and 1992, 928 atmospheric and underground nuclear tests were held at the NTS. When the test site was first established, it was managed by the Atomic Energy Commission, but the United States Department of Energy (DOE) now operates the site, which was dedicated as an Environmental Research Park in 1992.
